Your use of Chppi.org signifies your agreement to the terms and conditions described below.The Coalition for Community Housing Policy in the Public Interest (“Chppi”) reserves the right to modify this agreement at any time, and without prior notice, by posting amended terms on the website. Your continued use of the website indicates your acceptance of the modified terms and conditions.

 

Links to Other Web Sites and User-Supplied Content

 

Our websites contain links to other websites (“Third Party Sites”). These Third Party Sites are not monitored or checked for accuracy or content by Chppi, and Chppi is not responsible for the content of or any damages that result from your visiting any Third Party Sites accessed through our website. Chppi also does not review or screen all content posted by users on our website, and as such is not responsible for the accuracy, appropriateness, or completeness of user-supplied content. The inclusion of user-supplied content and links to Third Party Sites on our website do not imply any endorsement or approval by Chppi of those Third Party Sites or any Third Party goods or services. If you leave our site to visit a Third Party Site, you do so at your own risk (including the risk of encountering computer viruses or other malicious computer codes) and should be aware that Chppi’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy no longer govern on Third Party Sites.

All Chppi content including the name and logo and all related product and service names (“Chppi Content”) on this site is owned by Chppi or its sponsors, partners, content providers, licensors, or other third parties and is protected by law including, but not limited to, United States copyright and trademark law.  Reproduction, retransmission, sale, distribution, publication, broadcast, circulation, printing, or dissemination of any Chppi Content is prohibited without prior written permission from the Chppi or the other copyright owner if Chppi is not the owner.  You may not alter, obscure, delete, or conceal any copyright or other notices appearing on the Chppi Content, including any such notices appearing on any Chppi Content you are permitted to download, transmit, display, print, or reproduce from the Chppi website.  Any use of Chppi Content not expressly permitted by these Terms of Use is a breach of these Terms of Use and may violate copyright, trademark, and other laws.  Chppi Content and features are subject to change or termination without notice in the editorial discretion of Chppi.  All rights not expressly granted herein are reserved to Chppi and its licensors.

 

User Submissions and Conduct

 

By accepting these Terms of Use, you agree not to: 

   

  • Post content or initiate communications that are unlawful, abusive, libelous, discriminatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable, as well as post material that encourages conduct by others that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law.    

  • Post any content that violates copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other personal or proprietary rights.    

  • Collect user e-mail or contact information for the purposes of sending solicitations or unsolicited communications.    

  • Impersonate another user or post content under another user’s account.    

  • Use our website to post commercial solicitations, except where explicitly allowed.    

  • Upload to our website any content that contains computer viruses or other malicious computer code.    

  • Upload or post any information or communications that you do not have the right to disclose.    

  • Alter or modify any part of this website.

 

If you do post content or submit material, and unless we indicate otherwise, you grant Chppi a nonexclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, and fully sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, and display such content throughout the world in any media. You represent and warrant that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to the content that you post; that the content is accurate; that use of the content you supply does not violate this policy and will not cause injury to any person or entity; and that you will indemnify Chppi for all claims resulting from content you supply.

 

Monitoring and Enforcement

 

Chppi staff reserves the right to monitor information uploaded to the site as well as posts to our forums, and will remove any content deemed to be in violation of these Terms of Use. If you find user-supplied content on the site that you believe is in violation of the Terms of Use, you can flag it for review by site administrators by sending an e-mail with the URL of the page to webmaster@chppi.org. Flagged content will be reviewed by Chppi staff, who will make the final determination as to whether it is in violation of these Terms of Use.

 

Account Termination

 

Chppi reserves the right to determine whether user-supplied content is appropriate and complies with these terms and conditions, as outlined in the User Submissions and Conduct section above.

 

Indemnification

 

You agree to indemnify Chppi, its trustees, officers, employees, and agents from and against any and all liabilities, expenses (including attorneys’ fees), and damages arising out of claims resulting from your use of the website, your violation of these terms and conditions, and any claim that one of your submissions caused damage to a third party.

 

Disclaimer of Warranty and Limitation of Liability

 

The website is provided on an “as is,” “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, those of MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE or NON-INFRINGEMENT or any warranty arising from a course of usage, dealing, or trade practice. User waives all claims against Chppi and agrees that under no circumstances, including negligence, shall Chppi or its trustees, officers, employees or anyone else involved in creating or maintaining the website be liable for any DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL or CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, or LOST PROFITS that result from the use or inability to use the website and/or any other websites that are linked to the Chppi website, including, but not limited to, reliance by a user on any information obtained via the website; or that result from mistakes, omissions, interruptions, deletion of files, viruses, errors, defects, or any failure of performance, communications failure, theft, destruction, or unauthorized access. In jurisdictions that do not allow some or all of the above limitations of liability, liability shall be limited to the greatest extent allowed by law.

 

Governing Law

 

This agreement between you and Chppi will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

 

Privacy Policy

 

Chppi encourages and promotes an open exchange of housing information, including community living experiences and lessons learned. To create a safe forum in which to exchange ideas and disseminate information or knowledge on practices, Chppi and its members demand a mutual respect for privacy, copyright protection, and strict confidentiality of proprietary information.

 

Our Promise to You

 

Chppi will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit the Chppi website unless you affirmatively choose to provide such information.

 

What information is collected about me when I visit Chppi's website? How is it used?

 

When you visit our site, we may automatically collect and store only the following information about you, none of which is personally identifiable:    

 

  • Your host name or IP address    

  • The domain from which you access our site    

  • The day, month, and year you access our site.    

  • Your Device user agent identity (providing browser type, operating system type.)

 

We use this information to calculate the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful to future visitors.

 

We do not sell or transfer to third parties any of the information collected automatically from every visitor.

 

What about “cookies”?

 

Chppi uses cookies to store and track certain information about you. A cookie is a small amount of data sent to your browser from a Web server and stored on your computer’s hard drive. In general, Chppi uses cookies to store your logged-in status for members-only and subscription areas of our site, and to keep track of your order as you make online purchases via our e-commerce system.

 

If you browse Chppi's website with the cookies option turned off, you may not be able to use various features of our sites.

 

How do I opt out of e-mail communications?

 

You can decline to receive most e-mail notifications from Chppi. Most e-mail offers that you receive from Chppi will include an “unsubscribe” link that allows you to opt-out of subsequent emails from that category. However, you cannot opt out of e-mails that Chppi sends relating to your membership, such as renewal reminders and acknowledgements of your payments, event registrations, etc.  You also may control your e-mail preferences via your online profile.  If you have questions about e-mail opt-outs please contact us directly at admin@chppi.org and tell us which e-mail communications you do not wish to receive.

 

Who else has access to my member record?

 

Chppi membership chairs have access to listings of members of their groups via the Internet. Chppi members can access a limited amount of contact information about other members via the online Member Directory. Certain Chppi staff can access member records via our member database to manage our membership programs. We recognize the responsibility that comes with handling information and we apply security measures to protect information about our members.

 

How do I change my contact information? Bio?

 

You may change or update information in your membership profile by logging into your profile. For other questions related to updating or changing your membership information, please send an email to admin@chppi.org

 

Are there restrictions on members’ use of the directory?

 

Yes. Members are absolutely prohibited from using any directory listing for commercial or promotional purposes. Directory listings are provided to foster communication between members, not for mass mailings, unsolicited email, or spam.

 

Does Chppi sell its mailing list?

 

No. Chppi will exchange mailing lists with carefully screened organizations to assure that members have the widest knowledge of available opportunities for continuing education, conferences, conventions, meetings, publications, technical services, and other topics likely to be of interest and value. To that end, Chppi may exchange its associate member mailing list, on a name for name basis, with organizations publishing information or sponsoring events that are related primarily to association-governed community real estate (condominiums, homeowner associations, property owner associations, common interest developments and horizontal regimes) and public policy development. Chppi will at its sole discretion determine the acceptability of information that falls within the categories described above.

 

Chppi’s policy is that such promotions should not be political in nature, should not solicit donations, and should not contravene Chppi's policies or contain information that would allow a recipient to identify the identity or sources of the list.

 

Miscellaneous—This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois.  If any part of this Privacy Policy is determined to be invalid or unenforceable pursuant to applicable law, then the invalid or unenforceable provision will be deemed superseded by a valid, enforceable provision that most closely matches the intent of the original provision and the remainder of this Privacy Policy shall continue in force and effect.
